It was back in August 2007 when Helen and Dave Fothergill moved their then-very young family and two dogs to Camposol. They had already owned a couple of properties on the urbanisation for two years at that point, and so it wasn’t a great leap to take the step to use the one they had as their holiday home for their new home.
“Looking back, it was a brave (perhaps foolish) decision,” they recall. “We both had very good jobs in the UK, and had older children at Uni and in work there too. But with hope and the fact that our oldest of the younger children was set to start mainstream education we knew it was now or never!”
From that moment until this one, the couple has worked hard, moved house and built up their business Alpha Pools to what it is now and they have seen changes and progression that they never could have dreamt of when they first started.
What services Alpha Pools offer
As well as the pool cleaning business, Alpha Pools has now branched out into general construction jobs, initially starting with pool-related projects, pool building but also including outside kitchens, underbuild conversions, saunas, gyms and other renovation or extension work for the home.
The Alpha Pools team has been commissioned to do many bathroom and kitchen refits, plus retiling jobs and roofing work.
“We offer a fully comprehensive package, consisting of pool cleaning, pool maintenance, pumps, filter changes, leak detection, regrouts, leak repairs, fitting, handrails, fitting lights, fitting steps,” they explain, adding, “We supply and fit Poolex Heaters and pool covers, and have demonstrated a good knowledge of making sure the pool heater does what the client expects.
“We also alter existing pools to incorporate internal steps, raising the floor levels, replacing or removing the surrounding stone, and more.”
While they have grown, Alpha Pools is still essentially a family business. David heads the business and Helen deals with the administration as well as the design part of the business.
Their oldest son Aaron has taken a lead role in the business and being fluent in Spanish has helped enormously in dealing with licensing issues and the legal aspects.
Their other son Lewis has qualified as an electrician here in Spain and after completing 18 months working for an electrician has now joined the family business, heading all of the electrical work for pool customers. That’s why, as well as garden lights, pool lights and other pool ancillary related items, they can offer customers loads of other types of electrical installations and fault finding services.
