A memorable Cante de las Minas 2012 included a series of varied, colourful galas and four fiercely fought nights of competition which yielded exciting winners destined for a future in the world of flamenco.
This year a considerably expanded cultural programme added an additional element of cultural interest for attendees, including concerts in the Mina Agrupa Vicenta, 80 metres below the surface of the earth and a collaboration with the IVAM, the Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderno, bringing important sculptures and art to the Festival, complementing the stage backdrop which featured mining images pained by local artist Esteban Bernal Aguirre.

Work is already underway on the 2013 programme, honouring Miguel Poveda on the 20th Anniversary of his victory in the Minera category, winning the prized Lámpara Minera of La Unión, which helped to launch him on an international career as a major flamenco artist.
