The Casa de la Cultura in Cehegín was built on the site of the old market, and the current building, which consists of three floors, was officially opened in 1987.
The ground floor houses the theatre, which is also used as a hall of ceremonies, a concert hall, a cinema, etc, and seats 288 people. This room is also available for activities organized by primary or secondary schools as well as other organizations and associations.
The first floor is home to the municipal library, a meeting room, various offices and an exhibition gallery.
The second floor is used as the central offices of the CPR (the Centre for Teachers and Didactic Resources) of the north-west of the Region of Murcia.
Bearing in mind that the town of Cehegín has over 14,500 inhabitants, and that the Department of Culture organizes a large number of activities throughout the year, it is estimated that about 67,000 visits are made to the Casa de la Culture per annum, including all those who attend the functions or use the services provided in its different facilities.
