Fourth lane on Murcia-Cartagena A‑30 motorway moves forward
Contract signed to add a fourth lane between southern Murcia and the MU‑30 junction

Back in April, the Ministry of Transport announced plans to add a fourth lane on the A‑30 between southern Murcia and the MU‑30 junction near Alcantarilla. This area is notorious as one of the region’s busiest stretches, especially during rush hour. The changes and upgrades will include improvements to the Camino de Salabosque overpass and general safety work.
Now the project has taken a big step forward. On December 10, the Ministry signed the contract with Madrid-based Adiante Infraestructuras. They secured the contract with a bid of €11.85 million.
The construction will cover a 1.2 km stretch between kilometres 144.900 and 146.100 and is expected to take around 18 months. The original plan had a completion date of March 2027, but after some delays, they now say the new lane will be open by summer 2027 at the earliest.

What the fourth lane will change
The fourth lane will act as a holding lane for vehicles leaving the A‑30 toward the MU‑30, helping to ease the queues that often back up long-distance traffic. The work will also improve safety and traffic flow on the ramp, widen the Camino de Salabosque overpass, and put in noise-reduction screens along the route.
The roadworks will take up over 36,000m2 of land, spread across 80 separate plots. The owners have already been informed about the compensation they will receive for the use of their land, as well as the legal procedures involved. Expropriation is usually part of this process, where the government temporarily or permanently takes land for public use in accordance with the law.
While this 1.2 km stretch of the Murcia-Cartagena A‑30 motorway isn’t huge, the improvements will target a section that can be a headache for drivers. For the people who use it every day, it should make a real difference during peak times.
