Investigators suspect more than one person involved in Camposol double death
Police are not ruling out further arrests in the Camposol case of the two missing men who were found dead in a house
Investigators working on the case of the two bodies discovered in a squatted ‘okupa’ house on the Camposol urbanisation believe the suspect currently in provisional detention may not have acted alone. According to sources close to the case, further arrests are expected in the coming days.The theory that more than one person was involved is based on two key points: there were two victims, friends José Patricio Chango Heredia, 43, and Edwin Guillermo Cambal Chicaiza, 32, which would have made it difficult for a single person to overpower them, and the concealment of the bodies would also have been easier with more than one individual participating.
The house where the remains were found is located close to where the two Ecuadorian men lived in Camposol, a residential area known for its large foreign population, mainly British, German and Dutch. The property is described by investigators as an ‘okupa’, or squatted property.
The discovery was made after the suspect, who had already been detained, led the Guardia Civil to the property. He was present during the search that uncovered the bodies hidden in a basement area.
Relatives of the two missing men, who disappeared four and a half months ago on the same day in April after finishing work, are awaiting confirmation of their identities through DNA testing. Blood samples have already been provided by family members. One cousin, speaking to local media, admitted that the news of the discovery had taken him by surprise while travelling in Barcelona and that he had immediately returned to Murcia.Lawyer Eloy Ferrández, who represents the families, remains in regular contact with the Civil Guard and confirmed that the proceedings are under secrecy, urging caution until official confirmation is made. He added that the initial meeting between the suspect and the Ecuadorian citizens appeared to be “circumstantial,” although further investigation is required to establish the exact nature of their relationship.
The bodies were found in an advanced state of decomposition, and forensic examinations are now underway. The autopsy will determine whether the remains are those of the two friends, as evidence strongly suggests, and will attempt to establish the cause and time of death.
Due to decomposition, no immediate conclusions could be drawn from the initial visual inspection, though any signs of fatal injuries, such as stabbing or gunshot wounds, will be revealed during the analysis at the Institute of Legal Medicine.
The Guardia Civil is continuing its investigation and has not ruled out the possibility that others may have participated in the crime.
