Mayor of Mazarrón responds to positive news on dual carriageway to the Port
The Mayor of Mazarrón offers the full collaboration of the town council with regional government in the project of the high-capacity road between Mazarrón and Puerto de Mazarrón
The Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo, has expressed his satisfaction after the statements from the Regional Minister of Public works and Development, Jorge García Montoro, in an interview with a regional newspaper about the proposed dual carriageway between the town of Mazarrón and the Port area.
In the interview, the Minister was if about the project to build the dual carriageway were being processed, and he answered by saying, “The creation of a high-capacity road in the Bay of Mazarrón is one of the main priorities and, given the deficit of regional financing, we are studying public-private collaboration to carry it out, since we are talking about an investment of almost 60 million euros.
“The informative study, the draft layout and the economic-financial study, which we have sent to Icref (the Institute of Credit and Finance for the Region of Murcia), are already advanced. It is a conventional road with the very high traffic, with more than 6 million vehicles a year, which is outrageous. By making 9.5 kilometres of the road dual carriageway, the capacity of this road will be doubled, which will link the interior with the coast, it will link the network from the junction of Las Moreras to El Alamillo beach and will also facilitate the connection with the part of the municipality of Cartagena.”
The Mayor of Mazarrón responded by saying the project confirms that, after decades of requests by the municipality, the construction of the high-capacity road to the Bay of Mazarrón will finally be a reality. This infrastructure, essential for the structuring of the municipality and its connection with the coast, has long been demanded by the people of Mazarrón.
Ginés Campillo has made it clear that the Town Council of Mazarrón is willing to do everything necessary for this work to be executed as soon as possible.
“We cannot continue waiting, this road is an urgent need for Mazarrón, and from the town council we demand that action be taken as quickly as possible. The Mazarrón residents cannot continue to pay the price of the lack of action on the part of the regional government,” said the Mayor.
Likewise, the Mayor has reiterated his commitment to collaborate with the Regional Government, stressing that the priority must always be the wellbeing of citizens.
“When it comes to defending the interests of the people of Mazarrón, there are no political colours. We have already waited too long, and it is time for this infrastructure, so vital for the development and security of our municipality to be put in place,” Campillo concluded.
The high-capacity road in the Bay of Mazarrón, with an estimated investment of 60 million euros, will double the capacity of the 9.5-kilometre section, significantly improving the connection between the interior and the coast, as well as with the municipality of Cartagena, with more than six million vehicles traveling annually on this road.
