October 25 Run and bike ride from the beach of Santiago de la Ribera to the mountain of Cabezo Gordo
The Cavernícola Trail is an annual event for all the family
The Chotacabras Club in San Javier is holding it’s annual “Cavernícola Trail” event for the 9th year on Sunday 25th October, featuring a cycle ride or running race from the beach in Santiago de la Ribera to the car park on the mountainside of Cabezo Gordo, in the municipality of Torre Pacheco.
The event is so named after the Neanderthals who are known to have inhabited the area, and the caves of Cabezo Gordo specifically, almost a million years ago, and is billed as a family event which ends with fun and games for all ages, a good lunch for all and a great atmosphere.
The event starts at the beach at 8.30, with the official start on the 13-km route an hour afterwards, and registration is through Club Chotacabras San Javier.
For more local events, news and visiting information contact the local tourist office in Santiago de la Ribera (main contact number 661 572285) or go to the home page of San Javier Today.
