Ryanair flight full of Brits to Ibiza delayed after passenger disrupts boarding
A Spanish man refused to turn off his phone on Thursday evening’s Madrid service, forcing the plane to return to the stand
A Ryanair flight full of British passengers from Madrid to Ibiza was delayed by two hours on Thursday evening after a disruptive Spanish man refused to follow cabin crew instructions. The incident happened before take-off on the 22.15 service as the young passenger caused a disturbance during boarding.Passengers noticed the man acting up as they got on board. “We were boarding and already saw the young man making a scene, talking loudly on the phone, shouting, and everyone was watching him,” one traveller recalled. Despite repeated requests from crew members to switch off his phone, he refused and grew more agitated, at one point unfastening his seatbelt and striking parts of the cabin.
Crew members and another passenger tried to calm the situation, but with tensions rising the captain decided to halt the take-off. The aircraft reversed back to the stand, where Guardia Civil officers boarded and removed the man from the flight. “It was chaotic,” the same passenger added.
A Ryanair spokesperson confirmed the details, saying: “The crew of this flight from Madrid to Ibiza called for police assistance prior to departure after a passenger became disruptive on board. The aircraft returned to stand, where this passenger was offloaded before this flight continued to Ibiza.”
The airline underlined its “strict zero tolerance policy towards passenger misconduct” and said it would continue taking action to ensure “all passengers and crew travel in a respectful and stress-free environment.”
It’s a little reminder that it’s not always British travellers making headlines on flights to and from Spain. The episode unsettled fellow passengers, some with young children on board, but thankfully, once the man was offloaded the flight continued without further trouble.
