San Pedro del Pinatar beaches: Playa del Mojón
A Blue Flag beach on the boundary between Murcia and Alicante
The Plaua del Mojón is in the residential district of the same name, and is a wide, sandy Mediterranean coastal beach.
The district is fairly densely occupied, with a high concentration of holiday duplexes and residential apartments in the streets behind the beach, and is an attractive area very popular with residential ex-pats. The beach, meanwhile, is 465 metres long (the part of it which is within San Pedro del Pinatar) and an average of 50 metres wide, with fine, soft sand, and is an environmentally protected area next to the Parque Regional de las Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar.
From the main residential area, the walkways down to the sand are backed by decked and shaded seating areas, and cross the belt of dunes onto the beach itself.
This beach is prone to deposits of posidonia, particularly on windy days, although the council do send down cleaning teams when deposits are reported, particularly during the summer months when occupation is high.
There are lifeguards and medical personnel on the beach during peak occupancy, which is the 1st July to the middle of September, but please check with the tourist office on 968 182301 if this is important when selecting a beach.
There are facilities for disabled bathers during the summer months, with ramps and disabled toilets provided, as well as 4 disabled parking slots near to the beach. Disabled bathing seats are also available from beach personnel during summer months, and these are among the features which have led to El Mojón being awarded the prestigious Blue Flag every year.
There is no special parking for the beach, although there is plenty in the nearby urban streets except during the summer, when the residential area is fully occupied.
There are bars and restaurants within walking distance, as well as other shopping facilities.
This beach is on the boundary with Pilar de la Horadada and the neighbouring province of Alicante.
