Camposol public spaces - The Camposol dog recreation area
The Camposol dog recreation area is located in Central Park, Camposol Sector A
The Camposol dog recreation area is in Central Park, Sector A, Camposol (shortly to be renamed "Councillor Silvana Elisabetta Buxton Park" in honour of the late Councillor for Camposol) and not far from the children's playground. Located on Calle Jerez de la Frontera, between the Commercial Centre on Sector A and the Camposol Medical Centre, it is free to use and comprises a large, fully fenced-off site allowing dogs to be let off the leash, with a sand base plus seating for owners. Entry is via a double-gated lobby area, making the site safe for both owners and dogs.
It has lots of equipment, among which are dog training and agility apparatus including a tunnel, seesaw, jumping hoop, and ramp. There is also a water fountain and bins for the disposal of litter and for owners to deposit properly wrapped droppings from their pets, a mandatory condition for using the park (see rules below). In August 2023, municipal laws came into place with fines of up to €500 (first offence) for owners not picking up after their pets, and this includes in the dog parks.
The dog park is the result of a citizen budget participation scheme by Mazarrón Council in 2022, where Mazarrón citizens were invited to make proposals for small- to medium-sized projects which were in turn put out to a public vote. The dog park came second in the completion runner up to another Camposol project, the exercise area next to the football facilities on Sector D.
The dog park was opened on April 3, 2022 by the Councillor for Animal Welfare, Silvia García, for the enjoyment of dogs and owners alike. To this end, a few rules have been posted at the entrance:
Dog Recreation Area
Please cooperate in the conservation and maintenance of the area and respect the rules
Use of the area for any other activity than recreation of dogs is prohibited
Keep an eye out for other dogs near the entrance gates before entering and leaving and make sure it remains closed at all times
It is mandatory to collect and deposit properly wrapped excrement in the bins (as of 2023 there is up to €500 fine for non-compliance)
For your safety and that of others, keep your dog under control at all times
Breeds classed as potentially dangerous must enter the enclosure with a muzzle, the same is also recommended for those other animals that present similar characteristics
The carer of a dog, or its owner, is responsible for damages and losses that it may cause
