December 4 Anniversary procession of the figure of La Purísima in Mazarron
75 years since the figure of La Purísima was delivered to the townspeople of Mazarrón
Over the years there have been many carved and sculpted figures of “La Purísima”, the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception, in the main church of Mazarrón, and it was on 4th December 1949, a decade after the end of the Spanish Civil War and the turmoil it entailed, that the current one was welcomed by the townspeople as it was delivered in time for the feast day of the Patron on 8th December.
To commemorate the 75th anniversary of that event the procession is being recreated in 2024 on the same date, starting in the Jardín de la Paz at 17.00. Those who wish to attend wearing the traditional “huertano” costume are welcome to do so, and the procession will be followed by a floral offering and Holy Mass.
