Europe has a healthy appetite for Andalusian food
Germany leads the way as the region’s agri-food exports reach €4.926 billion in the first quarter
Europe continues to be the main market for Andalucía’s agri-food exports, with the region selling up to two million tonnes abroad in the first quarter of 2026. The total value came to €4.926 billion, and 84.4% of that was headed to European countries, worth more than €4.160 billion between January and March.Germany was comfortably the biggest buyer. It imported more than €1,012 million worth of Andalusian food and drink in the first three months of the year, accounting for 20.6% of the total. That also marked an 8.1% rise on the same period in 2025, equal to an extra €75.8 million.
France came next, with purchases worth €553 million. That was up 6.2%, or €32 million, and represented 11.2% of Andalucía’s total agri-food exports.
Italy followed in third place, with sales reaching €466.6 million. That figure was 8.6% higher than a year earlier, adding €36.8 million to the total and making up 9.5% of Andalucía’s exports in the sector.
The latest report from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development compares the first quarter of 2026 with the same months of 2025, and it shows a steady rise across several key markets.
Switzerland recorded one of the strongest performances among the top destinations. Andalusian exports there increased from €97.4 million in the first quarter of 2025 to €121.4 million this year, a jump of €24 million or 24.6%.
The Philippines saw the sharpest percentage rise overall. Although the total value was smaller at €41.3 million, sales almost doubled compared with the first quarter of 2025, when they stood at €21.3 million. That amounts to growth of 93.7%.
Not every market moved in the same direction. The United States was the biggest faller, with Andalusian food and drink sales dropping 18.2% to €267.4 million. That was almost €60 million less than in the first quarter of 2025, when the figure stood at €327 million.
For Andalucía, the first three months of the year have made one thing clear. Its food and drink sector remains firmly anchored in Europe, with Germany, France and Italy still leading the way.
