La Manga and Cabo de Palos plan for life beyond the summer season
Local businesses and the town hall are working on autumn events, beach services and plans to keep the coastal area active throughout the year
Summer may be winding down, but businesses in La Manga and Cabo de Palos are already looking ahead to the autumn months, with lots of sporting and cultural events planned for the coming weeks.
The Cartagena Ayuntamiento has been meeting with local business associations to discuss how to keep the coastal areas active outside the main summer season, as well as plans for 2027.
One of the main points raised was the need to continue providing good services along the coast once the summer crowds have gone. Pepe Espinosa, president of the Association of Businesspeople and Traders of La Manga, said the area doesn't shut down when September arrives.
He also called for continued investment in beach services, saying the good weather enjoyed by the area for much of the year means there is still plenty of opportunity for residents and visitors to enjoy the coast.
The Ayuntamiento says it will continue working with local businesses through the Agencia de Desarrollo Local y Empleo (ADLE) and the Oficina de Empresa. Councillor for Economic Development, Employment and Contracting Álvaro Valdés said the summer season had now been reviewed and planning for the coming months and 2027 was already getting underway.
Cabo de Palos is also expecting plenty of activity in September and October, particularly for anyone interested in sport and outdoor activities.
José Enrique Cárceles, president of the Cabo de Palos business association, pointed to events including the Sup Challenge, Swim Run and the Travesía a Nado del Cabo, along with international Pilates retreats.
He also welcomed the recent expansion of the Marine Reserve, which he said had helped strengthen the area's reputation as a quality year-round destination.
